Welcome to 2022! Many of you reading this know me already, and for those of you who don’t, I’d like to take this opportunity to introduce myself. My name is Phil Malcom, and I’ve worked at the JFO for nine years in several different roles, most recently as the Executive Director of Operations, and currently as the Interim CEO. For those of you whom I haven’t met, I’d love to get to know you; please don’t hesitate to reach out for a quick chat, introduction, or coffee. My email is pmalcom@jewishomaha.org, and I’d love to hear from you.

Interim periods can be challenging for organizations and for communities. Without a permanent leader in place, people often feel uneasy, worried, or even fearful for the future. One of this community’s greatest strengths is its deep pool of leadership, and because of that I’m confident in the future trajectory of the JFO even during this period of transition. I’d like to use my time today to introduce the leadership team serving all of you during the interim period. Jan Goldstein and Marty Ricks have both agreed to come back to the Federation from retirement to assist as consultants for the next few months. Marty will specifically be working with us on fundraising, and Jan will be assisting as a programming mentor as we work to implement elements of the strategic plan throughout our agencies. Over the coming weeks you’ll hear not just from me, but also from Jan, Marty, and Mike Siegel as we each give updates on JFO and agency operations, the CEO search process, and our own perspectives from our corners of the leadership team.

Finally, a little background info about me. I grew up in Lincoln and attended UNL, where I studied music and math. I moved to Omaha nine years ago to be closer to my then-significant-other, Laura. We’ve since married and just recently welcomed our twin daughters, Amelia and Lily. I’m an avid reader and am always on the lookout for a new book. I try to lead with empathy, I believe our collective intelligence is smarter than any one person, and I firmly believe that our best days are ahead if we choose to extend grace to each other along the way.

Thank you for trusting me to lead this fantastic organization for the next few months. We will continue to build upon the successes of the past as we prepare for a new vision from our permanent CEO!
